Design Museum Denmark

Danish Design - I Like it! exhibition at Design Museum Denmark.

This is one cool exhibition that I would love to check out - Jasper Morrison has curated and designed this 'Danish Design - I Like it!' exhibition for Design Museum Denmark in Copenhagen. This has been conceived to celebrate the name change of the museum (previously known as 'Kunstindustrimuseet' - that was a good move) as well as the cool design history that Denmark has. Love the use of textiles on the back panels as well as the colours. I'd also want to leave with most of furnishings too...

Reclaimed wood bench and dining table from Canvas.

Reclaimed wood mirror. Cute dog.
I like...these cool recycled solid cedar furnishings from Canvas. The solid cedar wood is salvaged from New York City rooftop water tanks, which means they have a great natural aged patina finish. It's always great to see sustainability done so well and so stylishly. Photographs via Canvas.

Royal Wedding Tea Towels

C&W Royal Wedding tea towel

William & Catherine Royal Wedding tea towel
Well, thank goodness the Royal Family belatedly approved to have tea towels allowed as souvenirs for the Royal Wedding - previously they were off the list of commemorative items as they were considered 'too disposable'. There have been many designs and it's great to see that not all of them are stuffy. I like these ones from John Lewis - classic and simple.

The Home of Finn Juhl

The home of Finn Juhl

Art by Vilhelm Lundstrom.

Here is the home of the late Danish Architect and designer Finn Juhl - now fully re-installed in Ordrupgaard, the French Impressionist museum in Northern Copenhagen. Juhl's home acts as a portfoilo of his vast range of design work - he designed the house and the furniture as well as many other details - there are even prototypes for his cutlery designs. It is a great narrative of 1950's Danish design as well as being an interior that many aspire to create these days. I'm impressed how modern it still is.

Fireplace Required.

Winter has arrived. Today's cold gusty weather has given us an indication of what we're in for over the following months - which means for some cranking up the fireplace. I don't have one but like the look of this compact wood burning stove in a California guesthouse by Alexandra Angle.

Rooms with a View

A View of Naples Through a Window, 1824

Woman at the Window, 1822

In Front of the Mirror, 1827
If I was in New York right now, I'd be checking out this interior inspired exhibition at the Met. It is called Rooms with a View - The Open Window in the 19th Century and all works focused on the "romantic motif of the open window". I like the hushed sparse rooms and the contemplative moments. Trubridge Lights

The popular 'Coral' & 'Floral' lights - now with painted interiors and new larger sizes.

The 'Grow' range of lights with painted interiors as displayed at the Milan Fair.

Here are some of the latest works from New Zealand designer David Trubridge - the popular lights are now available with colourful painted interiors and the 'Coral' and 'Floral' in a new size of 400mm.
After yesterday's posting, we know these lights go anywhere - even in an industrial home in New York.

I Like...

A New York residence with a Trubridge light in the entry way.

Books and art in the stairwell

I like...this New York residence designed by architect, Diana Kellogg. The spaces have been made so liveable within the industrial shell. There is a really nice ambience here.
It's always great to see Kiwi designers doing well internationally, especially one as successful as David Trubridge - his light looks great in the entryway.

Finding Images for Inspiration

A great bedroom inspiration from House to Home.

How about a traditional hallway?

Are you after a modern home office?

Or a rustic kitchen?
One thing that is important for a client to have when they meet their designer is images to show what they love, what they aspire to for the proposed design work. I know that I have occasionally tried to work with a client who hasn't shown me any images/ideas and it hasn't work as we'll be visualising completely different concepts. It's essential that the designer and client are on the same page - so in saying that, here is a great website with lots of inspirational images for you to choose from. It's called House to Home and it is a photo library/gallery of seven UK magazines - including Living Etc and Homes and Gardens. So if you're after some visual inspiration, check this out. There is every style possible in kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, home offices and the list goes on. Photographs via House to Home.

Blog Inspiration - Daily Imprint

I love reading about inspiring people and lately, to get this buzz, I have been reading  Daily Imprint, the blog world of writer and stylist, Natalie Walton from Bondi Beach, Australia.
If you want to read great interviews by inspiring creative people like The Sartorialist's Scott Schuman, fashion designer Collette Dinnigan, stylist Sibella Court, interior designers India Hicks and Shannon Fricke, this is the blog for you. Check it out here.

Natalie is also a stylist and one of her recent styling job was for Freedom furniture. I love the two pages above (click on the images to see them larger) that Natalie has styled. She has done a great job and I'm impressed by the cool new pieces that Freedom have on board.

Welcome to another new online magazine - this time an Australian one called Est. It's all about "global living with an Australian twist" and the debut issue looks great.
