Restaurant in Norway

Here are some beautiful photographs of beautiful timber furniture to finish off a busy week. This interior is at Lysverket, a restaurant in Bergen, Norway and it has been furnished with lovely pieces by Danish company, Kobenhavns Mobelsnedkeri. Enjoy.

Ruyi by Hecker Guthrie

Check out this new restaurant - it is called Ruyi, a dumpling and wine bar that has recently opened their doors in Melbourne, Australia.
Ruyi means 'as you wish' and was beautifully designed by the clever Hecker Guthrie, a Melbourne design firm that turns everything they touch into design gold.
I really like their approach here of simplicity and earthiness to their design - they mentioned that dumplings themselves are simple fare so the fit-out compliments this well.
While this is a new and modern fit out, I can't help but be reminded of details from my childhood (I was a child of the 70's) - like the pottery, the tiles and other details - is that the same for you? I think these details work beautifully with the light coloured timber and modern details.

Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel

Check out the cool Beach Club at Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel, Sydney. Recently refurbished, I'm loving the fresh and retro aqua colour they've used throughout as well as the overall super relaxed vibe. Getting in the mood for summer!

Waiheke Island Yacht Club, San Francisco

Not only are we making a splash on the waters in San Francisco (winners of the Louis Vuitton Cup and hopefully the America's Cup), we're also taking the restaurant scene by storm with our delicious New Zealand food.
This is Waiheke Island Yacht Club, a pop up restaurant located on Pier 29 on the Embarcadero. A collaborative team of architects Fearon Hay, furniture designers Douglas and Bec, chefs Desmond Harris and Hayden McMillian, and restaurateur Tony Stewart have created this relaxed culinary experience inspired by Waiheke Island and its nautical freedom. Leaving the building mainly as it is, the space has a central bar topped with New Zealand terrazzo, custom leather chairs, long communal tables and spirited kiwi hospitality personalities on the floor.
I like that the tableware is from Heath Ceramics, a great San Francisco brand from which I brought home a gorgeous vase earlier this year. I was sorely tempted to bring back a lot more.
Go Kiwis!

A Stylish London Cafe

I was looking for some visuals of the lovely Hay J77 chair when I came across this London eatery, the Cornerstone Cafe - which had the very chair looking great on their floor.
Designed by London based Paul Crofts Studio, this cafe is located in a former munitions factory and store, which inspired the V shaped military badge chevron motif used throughout. You can read more about it here.

A Taste of New Zealand in New York

Here's another restaurant with a New Zealand connection - this time in New York.
Kiwi Matt Lambert is the executive chef and owner of The Musket Room, a fine dining restaurant in Noho, Manhattan. Lambert is joined by his wife, Barbara Lambert and restaurateur Jennifer Vitagliano in serving their unique and New Zealand inspired menu.
The Musket Room was designed by Alexander Waterworth, an interior design firm in London and these photographs were taken by Emily Andrews, a New Zealand born, New York based photographer. Love seeing Kiwis doing well overseas.

Stylish Bistro in Auckland

This week I am loving the interior of this Auckland eatery, St Heliers Bay Bistro.
Created by the successful Hip Group and designed by McKinney + Windeatt Architects Ltd, this bistro has a woodsy Scandinaivan feel with luxurious and modern details. The overall feeling is warm and classy . Apparently it has a delicious menu to match - check out the Eat Here Now review here. Nice.

PREFAB Eatery, Wellington

A new eatery has opened it doors in Wellington and it has everyone excited. It's called PREFAB and is located in a great building with a cool interior space. It's big (seats 130), stylish (the refurbished building by done by Studio of Pacific Architecture) and has a fresh, clean and seasonal menu.
PREFAB was created by a team of Wellington's hospitality stalwarts and in the pipeline, there is an events space opening in May as well as other side projects. Sounds pre(tty) fab(ulous) to me.
