Screen Backdrop for Wedding

The one thing I love about my job is the variety of briefs that I receive. Last year a client approached me to do the layout for their wedding reception!
The reception was at a vintage style hall and we did the overall planning of the whole space. One of the details I suggested was a feature backdrop - this would create a focal point of the whole space. I suggested that this where the speakers would stand when they do their speeches, where the band would play in front of and generally set the tone of the wedding. The theme of the wedding was vintage with an art deco feel so we found this perfect wallpaper for the screen. It is called Imperial Pheasant and it was designed by Catherine Martin for Mokum. The black background with metallic gold pheasants looked striking and made great impact up close and from afar. My client sent me the above photo of the one of the screens - they had two side by side to make one larger one. I think it looks great!

Geometric Wallpaper

Hicks' Grand and Hicks' Hexagon wallpaper by Cole & Son

It's funny how similar jobs trickle into the office at the same time. Like last week, it was all about kitchens, this week it's all about wallpaper. The wallpaper that has been catching my eye and will be used for a job is this one called Hicks' Hexagon and Hicks' Grand by Cole & Son. This was named after the late David Hicks, an English interior designer well known for his use of bold geometric patterns.

Garden Wallpaper

Varklocka wallpaper by Josef Franks

The clean lines of the Kartell pendant light works well with the detailed wallpaper.

I don't usually choose wallpaper as detailed as the one above - however, I have a job where the wallpaper will only take up less than half a wall above existing white painted panelling. So with the panels below to balance it off, more detailed and small patterns is welcomed for a change.
Love this botanical one above, found in a Sydney home, by Josef Frank (who emigrated to Sweden in the 1930's) - it's like walking through a garden.

Marthe Armitage Wallpaper

High Road House, Chiswick, London

You may recognise this place as I have previously featured it (see here). I bring it up again as over the last month I keep seeing the name, Marthe Armitage popping up and this morning I saw it again in a newsletter so I began investigating. Marthe Armitage is responsible for the wallpaper used in these rooms at High Road House, London and the papers were selected especially for the house by Ilse Crawford.
Chiswick based artist Marthe Armitage creates and hand prints her wallpapers from lino blocks in her studio and has been doing this for 40 years. Yep, Armitage is in her 70's and still hand prints the stunning wallpapers herself - what an awesome woman.
Go here to see her wallpaper range - it's worth having a browse through.

Wallpaper

Love the use of wallpaper in this walk-in wardrobe - this is a great way to use wallaper that could be overwhelming in a larger room (and keeps it cost effective too).

Wallpaper - Ferm Living

I am at present working on a residential job which includes a young boy's bedroom. This boy, like many, loves trucks, cars and all things on wheels. I think this popular and graphic wallpaper called 'Rush Hour' from Danish company Ferm Living hits the spot for a feature wall in his bedroom.
