House by the Sea

This stylish and homely Welsh beach cottage recently caught my eye. Owned and designed by Welsh-born interior architect, Caryl Terlezki, the house has a great nautical feel by using touches of the classic red, blue, white combination.

Bodie and Fou in Homestyle New Zealand

Here is a great article about Karine Candice Kong and her London family home as featured in the latest Homestyle New Zealand magazine. I enjoy all the family connections in this article - Karine has a great online interiors store called Bodie and Fou, which she created with her sister, Elodie; and the photographs for this feature was taken by  photographer brother Francois. Karine is also married to a Kiwi and it's great to read about their stylish French meet Kiwi way of living. Enjoy.

Orla Kiely at Home 2013

Orla Kiely in the dining room - that is green marmoleum flooring which continues into the kitchen.

Olive, the labradoodle fits in beautifully.

In 2011, I posted this story about successful Irish designer, Orla Kiely and her London home. If you have a look, you will see that her interior colours then were strong, muted and cosy.
I met a new client last week who mentioned how she likes the colours of her Orla Kiely tins so I thought I would update myself and came across this recent article about Kiely's home. I think it is the same house or is very similar with the same fireplaces and character details. This time the interiors are fresher and lighter with shots of the olive, brown, orange, gold and creams that Kiely is so well known for. Read more about her home and her interior products here.

Stylish Interior Designer's Home

Tyler used Ikea kitchen cabinetry which she wrapped with custom made oak bench tops.

The dining table with a set of 50's Carl Jacob Jason chairs that Tyler found on ebay.

A Knoll sofa in the living area.
A Nelson Platfrom bench acts as the coffee table and Tablo side tables from Design House Stockholm.

I remember very well seeing this house when it was featured on an episode of Grand Designs a couple of years ago (do you watch this show? Isn't host Kevin McLeod great?) so when I spotted it in Dwell, it was great to be able to have a closer look. This house was designed by interior designer, Kathryn Tyler and she built her home around her vintage furniture collection that she had amassed previously over the years. Read more about it here.

Home of Terence Conran

The dining chairs came from a decomissioned ocean liner and Conran designed the table.

Black Fischel chairs with a vintage Saarinen Tulip table.

The sofa and rug are Conran's own designs.

The french deco table was brought at a flea market at L'isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Provence. (I've been there!)
The boxes (left) hold Conran's butterfly collection.

Shaker brushes from New York's antique stores are displayed over the bathroom's fireplace.

The armrest on this chair broke so Conran changed it to make it more useful...

Sir Terence Conran is a design businessman that I have admired for a long time - he is a well known designer, restaurateur, retailer and publisher. He has made quite an impression in the design world and received the Prince Philip Designers Prize in recognition of his lifetime achievements in design. I made great efforts to visit most of his retail and restaurant businesses as well as the Design Museum, which he founded, when I lived in London.
So how does a person of his design reputation live? Simply with classic design pieces and quirky details throughout.

Woven Textile Design by Eleanor Pritchard

Another cold day in Wellington - a day where one of these gorgeous blankets wouldn't go amiss. These lovely bold and geometric blankets are the work of Eleanor Pritchard from the UK. She designs and samples these in her London studio while the final run are made in a small traditional mill in Wales. All woven in 100% pure new wool, these textile designs are a nod to midcentury asethetics and apparently they're a hit with architects. Well, no surprise there.
