Rustic Barn House

This rustic and refined barn house, located within a vineyard near Rochester, New York, seemed appropriate to post on this wet autumnal evening. Beautiful details in this home include the 75mm thick solid maple kitchen island bench top (heavy!), the worn patina on the leather wing chair, the internal timber beam coming from the 150 year old barn frame as well as all the lovely natural details and displays through out.

I have a client who is looking at a Noguchi coffee table for her living area - and I remembered seeing this living room by AB Chao with the same table some time ago. I really liked how the well known design classic worked in this relaxed living room - it is a great example of how to mix different types of furnishings successfully.

Pink and Picasso

Recognise the bed head-board in this bedroom?  You may remember seeing it here as the former occupants of this room, artist Julian Schanbel and his wife, Olatz are no longer together. While the bed head-board has moved to a more simpler (but still grand) turquoise space, it held its own in this vibrant and baroque-style pink room with Picasso's Femme au Chapeau hanging nearby. Impressive.

Check out this very stylish hair salon, Morrison Hair Co. at Laguna Beach, California. Located at a spanish style house, the design combination of an upmarket salon with a relaxed 'home' vibe is successfully achieved. The waiting area is like a comfortable living room and there is no distinct 'reception' area, yet the salon remains professional with the clean lines and industrial furnishings. See more about this great salon and its transformation here.

Sophisticated Notting Hill Flat

Here is a sophisicated Victorian flat in Notting Hill, London by Ebba Thott of Sigmar. Swedish by birth and now based in London, Thott has managed a successful blend of Scandinavian and English design influences in the interiors. I love the grey on the walls, the dark trims and doors as well as the eclectic mix of modern and traditional furnishings (both English and Scandinavian).
